Dandong is located in the southeast of Liaoning Province, facing Sinuiju City of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the river on the east, the Yellow Sea on the south, Anshan on the west, Dalian City on the southwest and Benxi City on the north. Its geographical coordinates are 124°23 'east longitude and 40°07' north latitude. The maximum transverse distance between east and west is 196 kilometers, the maximum longitudinal distance between north and south is 160 kilometers, and the coastline is 120 kilometers.

 

 

 

Dandong is the northern starting point of China's coastline, located in the center of Northeast Asia, and an important intersection of Northeast Asia economic circle and Bohai and Yellow Sea economic Circle. It is a city along the river, along the coast and along the border with industry, commerce and trade, logistics and tourism as the main body. It is a national border cooperation zone, a national key development and opening pilot zone along the border, and a coastal open city. It has 10 ports of 5 types, including ports, railways, highways, pipelines and airports, and 1 China-DPRK border citizen trade zone. It is the largest port city of China's trade with the DPRK and a national franchised tourist city to the DPRK. Dandong has excellent ecological environment, excellent water quality, lush trees and rich resources. The per capita water occupancy is 1.5 times of the national per capita level, and the forest coverage rate is 66%. It is a natural green umbrella supporting the Liaodong Peninsula. Mineral resources have been found up to 64 kinds, is the famous "boron capital" in China. Dandong is rich in geothermal resources, is a famous hot spring resort, won the "Chinese Hot Spring City".
