Dandong is a border city in northeast China across the river from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is reported that there are nearly 30,000 Korean people in Dandong at present. After years of cultural integration, a unique Korean culture has been formed in Dandong.

 

In the streets along the river in downtown Dandong, there are shops with plaques in both Chinese and Korean characters, selling clothes, food, jewelry and other items with Korean characteristics. Many tourists are carefully choosing products in the shops.

 

At a bibimbap restaurant near Goryeo Street in Dandong, a long line of tourists formed outside the restaurant. Into the restaurant, the aroma of chili sauce mixed with the hot bibimbap hit the face.

 

The restaurant's chef has been making traditional Korean dishes for many years, a waiter told reporters. "Authentic Korean bibimbap is mixed with high-quality beef, bean sprouts, rice and other ingredients, and served with a delicious hot soup."

 

Lee Won-sam, 65, was the director of the Korean Culture and Art Museum in Dandong for 16 years. He told reporters that in recent years, dandong actively explore, protection, inheritance of the Korean culture and custom, has held the "Korean folk custom garden party" Korean 16 ritual "Korean throw 柶 game" and other activities, but also developed more dancers with Korean characteristics, chorus, orchestra instrumental ensemble, etc.

 

On June 15 this year, Dandong also held the 36th Korean folk Festival and the first Korean food culture Festival in Dandong. More than 3,000 Korean people gathered together, singing and dancing, showing folk customs.

 

In the activity, the musical and artistic performances such as the Song and dance Girl on the Swing, the male and female duet Song of Love, and the dance Jindalai in Full Bloom demonstrated vividly the cultural tradition of the Korean people who are good at singing and dancing. Traditional food, such as rice cake, cold noodles, let people appreciate the unique Korean food culture; Korean traditional chess, wrestling, women's springboard and other traditional sports show the Korean people's brave, wisdom, optimistic character.

 

"The Korean culture in China has a long history and has distinct characteristics in food, architecture, clothing and other aspects, which is very attractive." Dandong Korean culture and Art Museum librarian Kim Meihe said.
